A guy on one of the GeneWize training calls this week, ask if the host for the call thought he could do internet marketing, taking into consideration his age (don't know how old he was), and his lack of computer experience.
Others on the call agreed with the moderator that they had done it and if they could, anyone could.
My answer would have been "how much perseverance do you have? I started my network marketing way back when you set up frequent night meetings and contacted everyone you knew since you were 2 years old.
There were no, or very little, internet programs.
There were motivational books by people like John Milton Fogg, Zig Ziglar and many others that inspired us.
There were videos and I bought them all.
We beat the streets and worked hard.
I believed in it.
I knew I could be a "Royal Diamond".
For nine years I did this before I wore myself out way down at the Gold level, trying to drag people who weren't taking control of their lives along with me.
I needed a rest, said I would never get involved again.
Never say never.
After my "recuperation period", I got an email one day with an offer I couldn't refuse, probably because my "why" was pretty big at the time.
Plain and simple, I needed to make more money.
What I found was a whole new paradigm that revolves around the internet.
No meetings, no cold calling, a whole new playing field.
My first jumping off point was an enthusiastic company requiring an initial investment of $3000 and a monthly fee of approximately $300.
All I could see was the big money these people were talking about and was sure I could do the same thing.
Was I ever wrong.
I needed help and it wasn't available.
I soon realized I needed to pick a company requiring a smaller investment, rather than jumping into a $3000 one, since I knew so little.
Needless to say, I wasted a lot of time listening to training calls and trying to figure out the system, mostly by myself.
In order to "stop the bleeding" I ended that venture.
When another opportunity was offered to me because I was on some list I suppose.
I still had a belief in myself that I could make something happen with network marketing.
It still made sense that I could accomplish more as I get one person to join, who in turn gets two and those two get four and so on down the line.
This opportunity had to do with something I knew about.
Being a medical professional, I believed it could take me where I wanted to go.
Fortunately, this time, here was a team with a plan, an infrastructure to plug in to.
No more wondering what to do next.

) I've since learned about MySpace, Facebook, Twitter, about landing pages, about affiliate marketing, websites with HTML, FTP and so much more.
Out of necessity, I learned how to write articles, to enter forums.
I learned to stop signing up for every offer that came along, offering a better way to do it and focused on the few things that I had learned that I knew would bring people to my web page.
Bottom line, it has taken perseverance! Calvin Coolidge, for one, fully understood the importance of perseverance.
He said, "Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence.
Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful people with talent.
Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb.
Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts.
Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent.
" So what I would say to the guy on the call...
are you committed to getting what you want out of life by taking simple, consistent daily actions to move your business forward?" How bad do you want it, how big is your dream? Winning is learning the rules and knowing how to play the game.
Then make sure you get into the right game.
