Goodnight, Old Hannah
Old Hannah waves her dishrag as the customers say good night to her. After the last customers leave the diner, Hannah closes the door behind them and slides the bolt shut.

Wearily, she shuffles over to the jukebox in one corner of the room and drops in a few coins to play a sentimental ballad. As she wipes the counter and stools with a damp rag, she sings along with the sad old tune. Then, when the last notes of the song fade away, Hannah switches off the lights and crosses through the kitchen to her little room in the back. She lies down on the cot, intending to rest for just a minute, but soon she falls asleep. Hannah dreams she is a queen, and in her kingdom nobody can tell her what to do. The servants in her dream attend to all her wishes and commands.
