More Information About this Home Business:
From the Entrepreneur
In 2003 PJ’s Corner was established by Phyllis and Janey Fisher, a mother and daughter team, as a treasure outlet of nostalgically handcrafted cards, stationery and paper dolls that help people keep in touch with their family, friends, and acquaintances. All of our items are created with family in mind and use the artwork of our in-house artist: Phyllis Mae Richardson Fisher.
The idea of "PJ's Corner Gift Shoppe" formed throughout the years when Phyllis & Janey would talk about owning a store of their own. In 1999, they started writing "Children of the Desert", a gathering of childhood memories of Phyllis' childhood on the Arizona desert. At the same time, Janey started creating greeting cards, all the while wishing that she didn't have to use the clip art available to millions.
Children of the Desert was put on a back burner as Phyllis combined her idea of a story about twins named "Rueben and Rachel" with her cousin's idea of "Twiglet". Both cousins had children's stories in mind, and with contributions from five more family members, "Twiglet", the Little Christmas Tree was written.
Phyllis Mae Richardson Fisher studied commercial illustration and design and graduated from the Oregon Institute of Technology in Klamath Falls. Now 71, diabetes has claimed a good deal of Phyllis' eyesight. However, with the aid of magnifying glasses, eating right, and plenty of exercise, she still sits down at her art desk to continue adding to her portfolio!
Janey Loree Fisher has earned one year toward an Associate of Arts degree in computer science from Taft College, with plans of completing her BA degree at Bakersfield College. She is the webmaster for the PJ’s Corner Gift Shoppe and her cousins' website, Starlos Cockapoos, and maintains seven blogs, a CafePress store and a Fine Art America website.
From your Guide to Home Business
While it's not always easy, a business partnership among relatives, like this mother-daughter team and assistance from cousins, can provide an opportunity for families to grow closer and strengthen their family bond. Phyllis Mae Richardson Fisher's bout with diabetes hasn't stopped her from continuing to do what she loves and continue making contributions to the business. Sometimes, operating a home business can be a great outlet to continue to pursue your passions in spite of a disability or handicap, and her story may inspire others to do the same.
