- 1). Open your business card document in your word processor. Avery business card packaging comes with a template number on the outside. Open the "Mailing and Labels" menu in your word processor and find this template number from the list of available label templates. The Mailings and Labels menu is usually located under the "Format" menu in the main menu bar.
- 2). Inspect the business card template paper for rips or folds. Your paper should be flat with no separations in the business cards. Avery cards are less likely to feed properly through the printer if the business card sheets are not in tact. Damaged sheets should be removed as they usually result in paper jams.
- 3). Place your paper in the feed tray in your printer. Slide the paper so that it is all the way to the edge of the paper tray. Most printers have an icon demonstrating the proper orientation for the paper. If your Avery paper indicates which side should be facing up or down, match the paper tray icon with the instructions on your Avery business card sheets.
- 4). Verify that all text is within the confines of each business card outline. Save your document then click "File" then "Print." Click "Preferences" and choose a premium paper stock. Using automatic paper settings can result in paper feed errors. The spool of the printer adjusts with the paper thickness to ensure it is fed through correctly. Select your printer from the list of options and click "Print" again.
- 5). Guide your paper into the printer spool until it begins to feed automatically. If the printer fails to pull the paper, you can gently guide the paper all the way through the printer.
