How to Build a Good Relationship With a Child's Babysitter

    • 1). Pay them what they’re worth. Too many babysitters are underpaid, especially when it comes to caring for infants or for multiple children at one time. Don’t just pay them what they’re worth, but also give them a bonus for holidays as well as raises once in awhile. You get what you pay for. If you’re not willing to pay for a great babysitter, then you’re going to get someone that is sub par.

    • 2). Remember their birthday. Write it down so you make sure that you don’t forget it. Don’t just say happy birthday, go the extra mile to buy them a nice gift as well. Their birthday is an important part of their life and your child’s babysitter is an important part of your family’s life. It should be acknowledged without fail.

    • 3). Come home at the time that you’re supposed to. When you are constantly showing up past the time that you stated you were going to arrive at, you are telling your babysitter that you have no respect for their schedule and any plans that they may have. They can’t leave until you come home. If you feel one day that you may be running late, ask them in advance if they would mind staying.

    • 4). Tell them how much you appreciate them. Simple phrases such as “Thank you,” “I appreciate what you do” and “I don’t know what I would do without you” can go such a long way. Everyone loves knowing that their employer values them. By saying these simple phrases, you are telling your child’s babysitter that you don’t take them, or what they do, for granted.

    • 5). Pay them for expenses. If the babysitter takes your child to the museum or to the zoo, you should pay not only for your child but for the babysitter as well. So that there is no confusion and not too much money shelled out, ask her to call you in advance if she would like to take your child to a certain place. If you don’t have the money, you can always tell them not to go that day.
