- 1). Contact the Clerk of Courts in the county where the warrant originated. Once the judge signs the warrant it is filed with the Clerks office. When you call the Clerk of Courts, choose the option to be connected with the Criminal Division. Once connected, ask the representative to check the status of a warrant. Provide the representative with your name and case number if known. The representative will be able to provide you with all information available pertaining to the warrant.
- 2). Call the police department that sent the order for the arrest warrant to the judge. If a detective is assigned to the case, ask to speak with him. Provide the detective with your name, date of birth and case number if known. Be sure to ask the detective the reason that the warrant was issued and what steps must be taken to satisfy the warrant. Proceed with extreme caution when speaking to any member of the police department, as most statements can be used against you in court.
- 3). Ask your attorney to contact the judicial assistant for the judge who issued the warrant. Additionally, she can contact the judge if necessary to clear up any conditions or to discuss a means of satisfying the warrant. Many times, to satisfy a warrant the suspect must turn themselves into the police, however depending on circumstance your attorney may be able to negotiate an alternative means of satisfaction, such as reinstatement of probation.
