Skin tags are benign growths that can appear in the creases of your body, you are likely to get a skin tag around your eyelids, your bust line, the groin area and most commonly in the arm pit.
They often appear in groups although they are harmless they can become quite bothersome.
Women often find that they accidentally nick underarm skin tags while shaving.
The tags bleed and become sore and this leads to many people taking the step to look into skin tag removal.
Once you visit your doctor and it is determined that you have it there are several options that you can take.
Sadly, skin tag removal is considered a cosmetic procedure by most insurances and is not covered by your insurer.
You will most likely have to pay out of pocket to have it removed by a doctor which can be a bit expensive.
If you decide to go through with the removal, there are a few different ways it is done.
The doctor will usually choose one of three methods.
He can cauterize it, which is to burn it off with an electrolysis instrument.
Cryosurgery, often called freezing, stops the blood supply to the tag and it usually falls off a few days later.
The third way is to cut it off, this may be considered a form of surgery and could be covered by an insurance plan.
You may choose to try to remove it at home.
Unless you have been diagnosed with a tag you should not attempt any of these methods but once you know it is a tag you can purchase one of the removal kits on the market.
They will chemically remove the tag.
Or you can do something that is a little less toxic and use a mixture of baking soda and castor oil, this mix will dry up the tag in week or two.
Or simply tie a thread or a thing piece of fishing line around the tag, cutting off the blood supply and allowing it to die.
The tag should fall off in a few days.
Be sure to clean the area with peroxide and use an antibiotic cream on the area for a few days after to fend off possible infection.
