Housewives and mothers did babysitting or child care for other people's children.
These types of businesses may still exist to a small degree, but online marketing businesses have taken a firm hold on the home based business industry.
Network marketing, which was earlier known as MLM or multi-level marketing and involves getting others to sign up under you to be paid on their efforts as well as your own, has been going strong for decades.
A few of the early giants are still around, and new companies come on the horizon regularly.
Many of the newer companies are selling health and wellness products which target the huge segment of the population known as the baby boomers.
Other diverse products such as long distance telephone service, travel services, emergency preparedness, and food storage are also being sold through network marketing.
Most people who try these businesses make little or no money for their efforts.
They may become discouraged when success does not come quickly, and they may quit too soon.
Maybe success was at their fingertips, but they did not try hard enough or long enough to find it.
Sticking with it is vital if you really believe in it.
People can create the results they desire.
We are told that we can do whatever we want if we want it bad enough.
It takes a lot of hard work and dedication.
Of course, perseverance is also an important factor.
Just keep trying and putting forth the effort it requires.
Discouragement may undoubtedly rear its ugly head, but winning may be just around the corner.
