Bunk beds are a great way to save space when living with a limited number of rooms.
They are typically made of two bed frames, one on top of the other.
These beds are also used in hospitals and prisons.
Unfortunately, accidents do happen.
There have been cases where children have fallen off, or strangled by the bed rails.
So it is important to take this in to consideration when buying bunk beds.
Bunk beds that have one protective rail are usually placed along walls.
Ensure that you're using all of the proper materials when putting them together.
There have been cases where a child has fallen in between the wall and mattress, and have suffocated to death.
I'm not trying to scare you but it is important to understand the possibilities.
You should inspect them regularly.
The bolts may become loose from anyone climbing up and down the ladder.
The protective rails should also be inspected to insure that they don't fail in case a child rolls over against them.
If money is tight you may need to look for used beds.
Before you make a purchase, bring some tools with you and test the main bolts.
If there is a lot of play or stripped threading you may need to reconsider.
Another great tip is to educate your children on the dos and don'ts of bunk beds.
The better understanding they have, the more likely it is that they will respect the rules.
If you find that they don't respect the rules, you can designate a different room to play and only use the bunk bed room to sleep.
