Tow Limits for a Ford F-250

    Considerations

    • All pickup trucks have the ability to tow, usually with a traditional ball hitch installed. Under certain truck conditions, fifth wheel towing can extend towing limits. Under this scenario, a fifth wheel--a connection similar to that used for tractor-trailer rigs--is mounted in the center of a truck bed, over a rear axle to support the additional weight.

    6.2-liter Gas V-8

    • Ford F-250 conventional tow limit ranges for pickup trucks equipped with the 6.2-liter gas V-8 engine range from 12,000 pounds to 14,000 pounds. With fifth wheel towing, the range is from 12,000 pounds to 15,700 pounds.

    6.7-liter Diesel V-8

    • When equipped with a Power Stroke 6.7-liter diesel V-8 engine, the conventional tow limit of the Ford F-250 ranges from 12,000 pounds to 14,000 pounds. With fifth wheel towing, the range is from 11,700 pounds to 16,400 pounds.
