Scholarships for Military Veterans' Spouses

    Scholarships for all Veterans' Spouses

    • The National Military Family Association offers scholarships in varying amounts to veterans' spouses at all levels of study and even to part-time students. The Pat Tillman Foundation offers scholarship support to the spouses of veterans from all branches of the military. The organization ThanksUSA offers scholarship assistance to the spouses of veterans from all branches so long as the veteran has served at least 180 days of active-duty status since September 11, 2001.

    Army Spouse Scholarships

    • Some organizations make scholarship support available specifically to the spouses of veterans from the United States Army. For example, the organization Army Emergency Relief offers such scholarship assistance to the spouses of retired army personnel as well as to the widows of former army personnel through its Stateside Spouse Education Assistance Program. This scholarship will only pay for study at the undergraduate level. The annual deadline for application is December 15.

    Air Force Spouse Scholarships

    • Some organizations offer scholarships limited to the spouses of retired Air Force personnel. For example, the Air Force Aid Society offers scholarship support to the spouses of former Air Force personnel through the General Henry H. Arnold Education Grant Program. This scholarship is only available to applicants with a minimum grade point average of 2.0. The application deadline is March 11. This scholarship is also available to widows of former Air Force veterans.

    Navy/Marine Spouse Scholarships

    • Some scholarship programs are limited to spouses or widows of former Navy or Marine Corps personnel. For example, the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society offers scholarship assistance to widows of former Navy and Marine Corps personnel through the NMCRS Gold Star Scholarship Program. Widows who have since remarried are not eligible for this scholarship. Another source of scholarship support is the Fleet Reserve Association, which awards annual scholarships of up to $5,000 to Navy and Marine Corps personnel and their families.
