The cost of plastic surgery depends on a number of factors. The area of the body, the type of surgery, the technique employed to perform the procedure, and where the clinic is located geographically all influence the final cost. Parts of the body that are larger will demand higher costs to be treated for obvious reasons. The type of procedure to be performed and the technique determines what equipment might be necessary which will influence cost. The rates for each itemized charge are relative to the cosmetic surgery market of that geographical region.
Larger body areas will cost more than smaller areas. This is because larger areas will take more time and effort to fully treat.
Having multiple areas being worked on at one time will save money. It costs less in terms of effort to prepare and clean up to treat multiple areas. This is to save on the preparation and setup of the surgical equipment and facility.
There are many different plastic surgery procedures and each one will differ in cost from another. Non-surgical procedures, injections, and chemical peels tend to be cheaper than surgical procedures since there is much less risk of serious complication.
Some major surgeries will require general anesthesia which is to sedate the patient while others only require local anesthesia. The anesthesia fee makes up a big part of the final bill and patients are charged for the amount of the solution used during the plastic surgery procedure. An anesthesiologist will have to administer higher doses of the drug which also adds to the cost.
Most clinics will initially quote and advertise only the surgeon's fee since this is probably the only fee that is an item in every procedure. There are many more types of costs that have to be added in for each procedure. The use of the facilities is sometimes called a hospital fee or facility fee which can cost between $500 and $2000. Anesthesia administration as well as the drug consumed usually costs about a thousand dollars. Any special equipment or tool used during the surgery will usually be included to the facility fee or itemized individually.
