The cruise season to Alaska generally runs from May to early September.  Any earlier or any later would be too cold with the possibility of snow.  May is an excellent month to cruise the Inside Passage of Alaska.  This month tends to be drier with less chance of rainfall and temperatures may even reach 70 degrees.  As May is considered low season by the cruise lines, prices for May are generally the least expensive for the entire summer Alaska cruise season.  July and August tend to offer the warmest days with temperatures sometimes approaching 80 degrees!  July and August are also the time that you will see humpback whales feeding in the coastal waters of Alaska 's scenic Inside Passage .

Sea lions and their newly born off spring can also be seen especially off the coast of Juneau. With more chances of sunny and clear days, passengers cruising to Alaska during July and August are treated to the full majesty of her soaring mountains and rugged glaciers.  Due to the northerly latitude of Alaska , summer days in early July can be bright from as earyl as 4AM to as late as 1AM!  This extra daylight is ideal for making the most of your days in the quaint ports of call such as Ketchikan , Juneau , Skagway or Sitka .

If you are adding a land tour before or after your Alaskan cruise to Denali National Park , the longer days of July and early August will also offer you more opportunities to explore this beautiful area.  You can take a coach tour  deep into Denali National Park to view wildlife and majestic Mt McKinley both during the day or in the evening.  Due to more daylight, you will have excellent chances to spot wildlife such as grizzlies, big horn sheep and caribou.  You can even go white water rafting after dinner!
