Trick Review: Blindsight by Devin Knight
About.com Rating
Blindsight is a mentalism effect that baffles spectators and relies on a strong combination of classic mentalism techniques. In lesser hands, the routine could rely on common mentalism methods. But Devin Knight’s brings together elements that shroud and support each other. And for good measure, he adds a kicker at the routine’s end. For $20, this is a powerful close-up mentalism routine.
Color Their World
You present the idea that some individuals can see colors and shapes that they can’t see and you want to conduct an experiment. You introduce 4 ungimmicked colored cards: red, blue, green, and yellow, which are sealed into 4 opaque envelopes and mixed so that the spectator doesn't know which color is in which envelope.
You ask the spectator to point to any envelope and state the color he thinks is inside. You write the color on the outside of the envelope. This is repeated for each of the color cards and envelopes.
The spectator is asked to set one envelope aside. The remaining three envelopes are opened one at a time, and the spectator finds that he has correctly guessed the colors in each envelope. And when the remaining envelope is open, it’s found that you predicted the envelope that the spectator would select and set aside.
Brilliant Combo
Knight has brilliantly combined mentalism techniques into a single effect. This one is not difficult to learn and perform, but you will need to practice it.
There’s no complicated sleight of hand, switches or swami devices, and the props are ungimmicked and can be displayed freely. The effect comes with all of the cards, envelopes and pens to perform the effect.
Blindsight is a brilliant mentalism routine. It’s a steal for twenty bucks.
