There is nothing as important as the law all over the world.
The law lays down the rules and guidelines on just how we are supposed to carry out our tasks and activities and how we are supposed to conduct ourselves.
Every country in the world has laws, each county, town, city and any administrative unit in the world has its own distinct laws that set them apart from the rest in the world.
As much as the law acts as the guiding factor in our behaviour, there are some laws that simply put, are insane, and will really intrigue you when you come to learn about them.
Let us have a run down at some of them.
10.
Kenya - License to drink in your own house The average individual would most certainly call their friends to their house and throw a party, and have so much fun in the process.
Well, in Kenya you will need to have a license to drink in the comfort of your own home.
This is after the national body mandated to fight drug and substance abuse passed an insane law requiring residents to seek a license or a permit to allow use of alcohol in the comfort of their homes.
9.
Rome - Eat and drink at landmarks Many tourists will probably fall victim to this law.
When you go to Rome, you really have to do as the Romans do.
In a bid to keep the landmarks, historic sites and other sites of interest, clean after visits by picnickers, the Roman municipal outlawed eating and drinking in such sites.
You can visit and have your fun admiring some of these sites, but your hunger is not worth the $650 fine you will face when you decide to satisfy your hunger pangs.
That's a pretty weird law, but safe to the historical landmarks.
At least someone cares truly for the past! 8.
Greece - Stiletto heels Common and basic physics will tell you that there is so much pressure exerted on the ground by women who put on stiletto heels than you can possibly imagine.
Perhaps that explains why these shoes come in handy when women are caught up in a catfight, as the perfect weapon of choice.
In Greece therefore, the law takes a hard stance on stilettos in monumental areas to protect them for the foreseeable future.
7.
Thailand - Do not step on the King, err money! Oriental societies like Thailand will amaze you at the legal confines and extent that they would go to protect their sovereignty.
With that in mind whenever you are, visiting Thailand and you come upon a coin or a note on the road; kindly pick it up, but woe unto you if you step on it.
When you step on the money, you will have committed a crime, which is an equivalent to stepping on the King's face.
6.
Alabama - 5 Minutes to Vote You must make sure that you have your preferred candidate in mind when you go to vote in Alabama.
Apart from that, you have to ensure you are familiar with the voting mechanism because the law only allows you 5 minutes to cast your vote.
This is according to Alabama Code 17-9-13.
5.
China - College is for the intelligent only You fancy a shot at studying in some of the best colleges in China? Well, in the event that you are not intelligent, you have better luck trying something else.
Believe it or not there is a law that requires only the intelligent to go to College in China.
You can only wonder how they determine who is intelligent from who isn't.
Wait, did the guys who came up with this law make it to college? 4.
Maryland, USA - Thou shalt not take a lion to the movies OK, this is pretty ludicrous! In Baltimore it is illegal for you to take a lion to the movies.
You would think there is a better description of insanity until you come across this legal requirement.
First of all, what were the law makers thinking? Who in their right mind would walk along the streets with a lion and go to the movies.
Besides, you can only imagine the reaction to the other moviegoers when you enter the theatre.
3.
Georgia - Privacy to the mannequins The mannequins at your favourite fashion store do not just emerge to be human look alikes, but also they say that have their own rights to privacy.
It is against the law to change the clothes on your store mannequin unless you have the shades drawn.
You wouldn't want to have your mannequin's nakedness exposed to all and sundry.
2.
Utah - Right of way to the BIRDS! Perhaps what is interesting about this law is that however insane it sounds, it might have been intended for pilots, I mean, what would a bird be doing flying and waiting at an intersection? Well, in the state of Utah, birds do have the right of way, on all highways.
So woe unto you if you commit this traffic offense; will you get a ticket? Will you face the birds in court? 1 Portugal - Do not pee in the ocean This is to all you tourists, holidaymakers and anyone else who would love to travel to Portugal and enjoy your time by the beach.
It is against the law for you to take a leak in the ocean.
Swimming pools have a way of fool proofing this law, but you wonder how someone would tell if you did pee in the ocean or not.
Besides, it would be interesting to come across anyone who has ever been at the wrong end of this law; how did they get the evidence? There you have it; so the next time you are planning to visit some of these countries, towns and cities, you better be on your best behaviour or the long arm of the law will catch up with you.
Oh, and while you are at it ladies, when you visit New York, feel free to go topless in the public in the city, just as long as you are not doing it for business!
