Six Habits You Must Break With Credit Cards

Humans are habit prone.
That is why we have to be careful in how we use our credit cards.
Those who are good a restraint and will power activities are in fewer numbers or so it would seem.
So here are six habits you must avoid in order to keep from digging yourself deep in credit card debt.
Avoid teaser rates.
It has been shown that we tend to focus on the low interest teaser rates without considering the consequences before we sign up for a credit card.
This is dangerous because of what happens after the teaser rate ends.
Higher interest rates cause the items that you purchase with your card to cost more in the long run if you do not pay your balance off.
It would be better to look for a card with a low, overall rate instead of obtaining a card with a low teaser rate.
Avoid fees.
The fees that get us often are the over limit and late fees.
But there are others, too, like cash advance fees.
These are all designed to enrich the banks' profits while adding to your balances.
  Avoid over-use.
Make a pact with yourself to limit how much credit card debt you will allow and stay below that limit.
If you do not have the cash to pay for something, then refuse to buy it until you do.
Use credit cards only in situations where you have no other choice - emergencies, for example.
But make sure that you have a plan to pay off the charged amount.
  Avoid late payments.
Not only do you get hit with the late fee, but also the interest rate that accompanies it.
The late payment also triggers flags on your account that tell the card issuer that you need an interest rate increase because you are now in a higher risk category.
It appears that you will not be able to make your payments on time to them.
  Avoid balance transfers.
Balance transfers are good only if you have the will power and circumstances to make them work for you.
Moving balances from card to card will eventually stop because credit card companies will become wise to your tactics, but also, you will have to pay off the balance sooner or later.
It is better to use this as only a temporary move while you pay down your balances on your other cards.
  Avoid minimum payments.
Minimum payments only allow you to tread water with your balances.
You need to make more than the minimum in order to move towards paying down your balances.
Getting your credit cards under control means breaking bad habits or not forming new ones that are detrimental to your financial picture.
Before you take on new debt of any kind, be sure to read the fine print and understand fully what you are getting yourself into before you sign on the line.
Make sure that you have a plan in place to pay your debts no matter what the amounts are so that you can work towards that goal.
That will be a good habit to develop which will help you the rest of your life.
