- 1). Include an infinity pool, which tricks the eye into believing there is no edge to the pool. Pools that are near a body of water are designed to appear as though they are actually part of the lake or ocean.
- 2). A lap pool can be placed beside the infinity pool for workouts, or an endless pool can be used. Endless pools work by creating resistance against your body as you swim, creating the same experience as swimming laps.
- 3). Consider adding a jetted spa at one end of the pool. so that bathers can easily move from one to the other. Use natural stone, ceramic or glass tiles for the pool and spa deck.
- 4). Be sure to have a cabana, and include amenities like a galley kitchen, full bathroom and space for a washer and dryer for dirty towels and robes. Front the cabana with glass doors that can be opened to the side of the building facing the pool area.
- 5). Create a water feature by building a waterfall that tumbles into the pool. Use natural rocks and use plantings that complement your landscape.
- 6). Emulate a posh resort by placing a swim-up bar at the edge of the pool. Add an awning for shade and affix fix bar stools to the bottom of the pool.
- 7). Naturalize the pool by building the sides from large rocks or boulders that extend higher than the pool deck. This creates the effect of being in a remote canyon. Plant evergreens or cactus around the pool and make the cabana from rustic logs.
- 8). Light the pool dramatically. Place uplights under bushes, train spotlights on focal points and use dimmer switches to change the mood.
