Tutorial on Hand Washing Your Clothing

Has this ever happened to you? You got a hot date lined up for the afternoon and you are planning on wearing your favorite dress, but you find out that your dress is in the dirty laundry. And as this was not your lucky day, you find out that all of the washing machines are either taken or broken and you have no other choice than to hand wash it. Here is a quick tutorial on how to hand wash your dress for that important date.

You can use your kitchen sink, your bathtub, or your laundry basin to hand wash your dress. For this tutorial, we will be using a bathtub. The first step in hand washing your clothes is to fill up your bathtub with warm water. The warm water should be hot, but not too hot that you can burn your hands.

The second step is to put your favorite laundry detergent in the bathtub. Please read the instructions on the back of your laundry detergent for the appropriate amount of detergent to put in. Make sure that you do not put too much detergent in the bathtub and that the water is soapy.

The third step you want to do is to put your dress in the bathtub and let it soak. If your dress or clothing is stained, then you will want to let it soak for a little longer. Now the cleaning part, twist and shake your piece of clothing for at least five minutes. You will need at least five minutes in order for you to shake the dirt particles out from the fibers. Remember, if your piece of clothing is heavily stained then you will want to pay special attention to that area. For tough stains, you might even need a special stain remover detergent.

The fourth step in hand washing your clothes is to change the water. Drain the bathtub of all the soapy water and replace it with new clean water so that you can rinse your clothing. Repeat this rinsing step a few times until you see that the water is clear and there is no soap left.

After you have rinsed your clothing, make sure you squeeze out all of the water and be careful not to twist your clothing too hard because you run the risk of damaging your clothes. The final step after you have washed and rinsed your clothing is to dry it. You can either hang it up to dry or use a dryer. Now you know what to do when the washing machine is full or you just need to wash your favorite dress for that special date. And remember that hand washing is not only more economical, but also faster than using a washing machine. Happy washing.
