- Vitreous Enamel Surface (VES) often referred to as ceramic
- Projection Compatible or Matt Surface
These boards are a glossed melamine or laminate which are treated and lacquered on the surface.
These boards are the entry level type of whiteboards and as such have the shortest surface guarantee and are cheaper than any of the other surfaces below.
For infrequent use, or for installations where price is an important factor then this is a good board to consider.
Magnetic Whiteboards Magnetic whiteboards is a slightly misleading industry classification for this surface, as the boards themselves are not magnetic, more that the board construct allows magnets to be used.
A magnetic board is constructed with a gloss lacquered steel sheet over an underlying base sheet, normally melamine or laminate.
As the entire surface has steel underneath it, it allows magnets to be used for planning, pinning up and general visual aids.
The nature of the boards make them a mid price point board as they feature a longer surface guarantee than the non magnetic boards and are positioned in price between them and the premium vitreous enamel board which we will discuss below.
If you are looking to use a board quite regularly and may have the need for magnetic planning and visual aids, then this surface is worth considering.
When using magnets on these boards it is important to try and avoid sliding the magnets on the glossed surface, as any scratches could potentially allow in ink pigment from the drywipe markers and make cleaning difficult.
Vitreous Enamel Surface (VES) or Ceramic Whiteboards VES boards are the premium products in the range.
The board is constructed with a vitreous enamel or ceramic surface over an underlying steel.
This enamelled surface is twice fired to 800 degrees during the production process which makes it extremely hard wearing and consequently features the longest surface guarantee.
Although these boards are a premium price, if they are being used regularly, over the life of the board they represent good value for money.
We would recommend these boards for installations where high use is anticipated or a premium finish is required.
VES Projection Compatible Boards These boards are of the same construct as per the VES boards but feature a slightly matt finish.
This finish allows for the whiteboard to be used both as a high quality writing surface, but also as a display screen for projection.
This versatility makes them a great board for training and educational environments negating the need for both a whiteboard and projection screen.
