- 1). Gather all applicable income paperwork, such as W2s, 1099s, interest income statements, brokerage or bank statements, or any other form of taxable income. Separate copies designated for your state return or make copies for this use.
- 2). Locate details on any deductions that might lower your state income tax liability. These may include dependents, charitable contributions and local tax exemptions. If unfamiliar with these deductions, consult a tax professional for advice to avoid errors.
- 3). Obtain and complete the Alabama Individual Income Tax Form for the applicable filing year. This form can be obtained by mail upon request, at local post offices or online (see "References").
- 4). Attach all pertinent paperwork to the completed income tax form and mail to the Alabama Department of Revenue. Forms can also be completed and submitted via the state's online tax system (see "References").
