- 1). Put on the rubber gloves. Cover a rag with the paint stripper and remove any lacquer that is coated over the brass, as this will keep the natural antiquing process from occurring and the black paint from adhering.
- 2). Pour the black paint into a bowl and add an equal amount of water. Mix them together thoroughly using the paintbrush.
- 3). Paint the black paint evenly all over the entire brass object, ensuring that it never dries. If the object is large, paint only one area at a time.
- 4). Wipe away the black paint from the upraised parts of the brass using a clean rag. This allows the black paint to settle into the grooves of the object, giving it an antique look.
- 5). Allow the brass object and the paint to completely dry -- usually over four to five hours.
- 6). Paint a clean laquer over the entire brass object evenly to ensure that the black paint adheres to the object.
