How to Correctly Insert Reborn Baby Eyes

There are a variety of eyes available for dollmaking and reborning, some are plastic, some glass.
The best eyes to use are the German multifleck.
These are easy to work with and have a realism not seen before in doll eyes.
You will need to begin by either baking your baby in a low oven for 8 minutes to make it more flexible, or alternatively you can use a hairdryer to heat the eye socket area remembering to heat inside the head as well as outside.
Taking your thin blade cutter, cut away the fold of vinyl inside the eye socket, this isn't required and can be neatly cut away to expose the inside of the head in preparation for the eye.
Using a similar glue to that you use to seal the inside of the head after microrooting, must be a clear drying glue, apply a small amount to the surround of the eye socket on the inside, where the eye will sit in place.
This can be quite fiddly so it's best to take your time and make sure you don't have any glue seeping out from the sides, it can be quite obvious against the eye once in place.
Once the glue is applied let it rest for around five minutes, this will make it easier for the eye to adhere to the socket, if you put it in straight away you will find your eyeball will slip around quite a bit.
To get good grip it's best to leave the glue to cure for this amount of time, then set your eye into place.
Setting the eye is again a procedure that requires patience and close attention to the area you are working with, pushing the eye through, move it around until you are happy with the positioning then gently push into the glue.
It's advised to hold the eye in place with your fingers for another five minutes to make sure it doesn't move and has adhered well enough to hold its position while it sets in place.
When you are confident you can remove your fingers and the eyeball will not move, you can take your hand away gently, keeping your head very steady.
It will take a few hours for your eye to properly set in place so it is best to find something quite small and heavy, some sort of tool would work, a wrench or something similar.
Wedge the head into a position it cannot move from and rest the weight inside the head up against the eye to avoid it releasing from the glue, after a few hours your eyes should be permanently set and you can go about other finishing touches on your reborn.
