If you want to make your own website but you have no idea how to start, here is a simple guide with easy to follow steps, which you can use as a guide to start creating your own website.

1. Domain Name

First of all, you need to get your own domain name. This is the name for your website. You will have to spend a very small amount of money here because you have to pay a certain fee every year for the sole rights of the name. Don't worry; it's a very easy, plain sailing procedure which is done via an online registrar like http://www.Godaddy.com for example.

2. Web Hosting Services

After choosing your domain name, the next step is to choose a web host and sign up for you own account. A web host is a company where a webmaster gets his or her website connected to the internet in order for it to be viewed by internet users.  Web hosting companies are incredibly cheap nowadays, and one who offers the best service is http://www.Hostgator.com.

Once you have signed up for an account, you will have to point your domain to your web host account.

3. Start Designing your Web Pages

Once you are all done with getting your domain name and webhost, your next step is to design your web pages and website. One way to do this is through the use of a WYSIWYG or What You See Is What You Get web editor. The web editor will do all the coding for you so you don't have to go through a complicated process.

You can choose from commercial and free web editors available online. If you have money to spend, a popular choice which you can go for is Dreamweaver. But if you rather opt for the free option, there is some excellent software like Wordpress.  I personally adore Wordpress.  It is incredibly easy to use and works very similarly to Word in Microsoft Office..

4. Test your Website

After you're done with designing your website, you should always test it. Test it in major browsers like Internet Explorer 6, 7 and 8; Firefox, Opera; Safari; and Chrome to see if your website is working and if it can be viewed as an ordinary internet user and not the owner.

But since there are a number of new versions of browsers that are coming out, one step you can take to make it a point that your website will still be viewable in future versions of browsers is to validate your website's HTML code.

5. Get your Website Noticed

Now that your website is finally ready, you have to get it noticed. And you can do this by submitting it to search engines like Google and Bing.  Additionally, you can also link your website to other websites.

You can easily promote your website by yourself and there are a number of ways to do this.
