When you want to learn digital photography, you will find that it's much easier to use it than the traditional cameras, however there are also more things to know about a digital camera and taking photos the right way.
There are lots of books and online articles that you can check out, however you might simply find yourself at times overwhelmed with everything there is out there.
Where do you start and how do you start? When you are about to buy your new digital camera, you will notice that there are many brands out there with even more features available.
For example you will find some cameras with more megapixels than others.
Nowadays you actually find cameras with 14 megapixels, such as the Panasonic Lumix.
However even if you buy a camera with 10 or 12 MP, it will serve you well for the next couple of years and it will be also cheaper than the very latest model.
You need to take proper care of your new camera.
For example if you got a digital SLR with removable lenses, you need to know that dust is easily settled on the sensors.
So try to avoid any static electricity in the vicinity of the sensor to avoid attaching any dust on it.
If you do see dust gathering, clean it up as soon as you see it.
If you leave it there, dust will attract even more dust and you'll have more cleaning issues afterwards.
If you want to try out night photography, use the slow synch flash feature that most cameras have, as this will basically combine the flash with a right exposure that will give the background more life.
Most cameras call this feature "night portrait', so check out the camera manual to see where to use that option.
The more you use your camera, the more pictures you will start taking.
Of course, this means that you will eventually have to start worrying about storage space.
Make sure that you have enough of it.
You can also backup some of your older pictures to your computer and erase them from your camera.
This way you will save space for new photos.
Depending on the type of photos you will take, you might or might not need the flash too much.
For example if you want to take photos of small items using the macro feature (such as shots of bugs or of jewelry), you will not need to use the flash.
In these cases you should actually avoid using a flash.
However if you take shots of backgrounds and outdoors, flash is in most cases a must.
You can set your camera to the fill flash mode, which will make sure that you always have enough light outside, no matter the time of day.
