How to Fix Cracks on Pictures

    • 1). Double click the photo editing program you use to edit pictures. You need a program that allows you to copy or clone portions of the picture. If your program does not provide this option, there a number of programs you can buy or download for free from the Internet. Adobe Photoshop is a program you buy that will complete this task, GIMP is a free download that has many of the same tools as Photoshop.

    • 2). Click "File" and select "Open" from the drop-down menu. Use your cursor to navigate to the image you want to edit. Highlight the image and click "OK" and the image will appear in the program.

    • 3). Click "Window" or "Image" in the navigation bar and select "100 percent" or "Actual Pixels" to increase the size of the image picture to its actual size. Working on the picture when it is magnified will make the task easier. Click and hold the picture and position it so the damaged area appears on your screen.

    • 4). Click "Edit" and select "Copy" or select the "Clone" tool in your program. Adjust the size of the tool to "5 or 10" pixels. This will vary depending on the area of data surrounding the damaged area that you will be copying. An area with significant detail requires a small selection at a time. An area that looks very similar can be selected in larger sections.

    • 5). Click the area you want to clone or copy. Position your cursor over the area and click it using your mouse button. Some programs require you to hold the "CTRL" key while clicking the area to copy.

    • 6). Reposition your computer mouse over the damaged area and click the mouse button to paste the new data into the damaged area. This will take some time to complete. When done correctly your image will look as if it was never damaged.
