- With 440,000 square miles and a population of only 40,000 the Northwest Territories provide a vast land of open, rugged spaces where game is plentiful. Hunters here are required to obtain a license to hunt caribou, bison, polar bear and any other animal hunted for sport and not food. Licenses are valid from July 1 to June 30 and can be purchased at Environmental and Natural Resources locations.
- Lake Erie is one of the most popular of the lakes for fishing, with two thirds of Canada's Great Lakes fishing caught from this body of water. Lake trout are popular in Lake Superior and yellow perch and walleye--among others--are caught in all five lakes.
