When you become a model railroader, one of your very first tasks is to decide on which type of scale you would like to build your layout around.
It could very well be that you may choose to work with more than one scale.
The choice of scale is more often than not, a matter of space which is available to build your layout and initial budget.
One popular scale among certain hobbyist which actually isn't classed as a scale, and one that you may not even be familiar with, is the L line model train.
Many hobbyist will overlook this model scale, and as mentioned, probably have never heard of it.
Without realizing it, many of us have actually been exposed to this particular model, or at least it's manufacturer.
You see, this is the scale model that is produced by Lego, and in our childhood most of us at one time or another have played with Lego blocks.
Constructing a model train layout using Lego trains and accessories is actually serious business for a select group of hobbyist, and rightfully so, because you can build a layout using Lego trains and Lego blocks that can be just as elaborate and detailed as any other scale.
The L line model train is one additional alternative which enthusiast can choose to become involved with, and feel more than assured that they will ultimately have a very unique model train layout.
If you've never seen this model and the creative layouts that can be designed using Lego blocks your time will be well invested by visiting the You Tube website online, where you can see a variety of eye opening videos which represent an amazing display of creative ideas for this scale.
Another consideration for selecting this scale may have more to do with being a parent than anything else, because this is an ideal choice for children.
What better way to introduce your child to this amazing hobby by using one of the more popular children's toys which is available today? Better yet, as previously mentioned, you can show them videos of some pretty elaborate layouts, and also take your children to a Lego Land theme park so that they may see these terrific trains first hand.
I would be remiss if I didn't acknowledge the fact that your children will most likely be taken by everything else Lego has to offer at their parks as well.
A Little Lego Train History Lego actually began quite modestly in the workshop of a craftsman whose name was Ole Kirk Christiansen in 1916.
It wasn't until plastic was introduced to the marketplace worldwide that Kirk began to create toys made of this new material, and in fact the first toy he made wasn't even a model train.
It was a truck.
It wasn't until 1949 that Lego began to manufacture the plastic blocks which we are familiar with today, and finally in 1990 Lego introduced a new series which they developed for hobbyist who were more advanced.
These new blocks were the catalyst for hobbyist throughout the world to begin building model trains and their layouts entirely from Lego blocks.
Today, you'll find that there are many enthusiast who are solely devoted to building the most intricate and elaborate model train layouts strictly through using Lego blocks.
