Using Positive Motivations With Your Kids

Most moms will admit to yelling at their kids once in a while.
Though we know our kids are learning about life and do not always know what they are doing is not the right thing, it can be hard to keep your cool 100 percent of the time, especially if they are doing something you have already gone over with them many, many times.
Try to turn things around for a more peaceful household with positive motivations instead of negative punishments.
It can take some getting use to, but it can be the answer to your prayers for some peace, quiet, and understanding.
Don't beat yourself up for yelling.
It may be something your parents did, and it is often easier to correct a child when they are wrong rather than to encourage them when you catch them doing something the right way, which is what positive motivations is all about.
You simply do what your parents did, as they do what their parents did and so on.
There are always going to be times when you have to punish a child with a time out because they have done something wrong, but if you try positive motivations, those times may be few and far between at most.
Positive motivations are much what they sound like.
When you see your child doing the right thing, you may a huge deal out of it.
This is something that may bother them when they are older, so at that time you mention it but you do so subtly.
You know how easily teenagers get embarrassed by their parents, even when no one else is around.
Positive motivations show them that they have done something good, and that is what is going to get them attention.
Some children learn that bad behavior gets attention, and that is not what you want them to learn.
You may already know more about positive motivations than you think you do.
When your children were learning to sit, crawl, and walk, you may have clapped wildly to encourage them to try again.
This is the exact thing that you should be doing.
Most parents stop doing it when the baby is older, and that can be a mistake.
Instead of focusing on saying 'no,' try to say yes more to the things that you do want them to do.
Use a small 'no' when doing something wrong and remove them from the scene without too much of a reaction.
Positive motivations can be and should be used throughout childhood.
No matter what, remember that it is the best way to show them that you care about what they are doing, and it does encourage them to make good choices.
It shows them that positive attention is the attention that they should seek.
Positive motivations also put a positive spin on your relationships with your kids.
You may have to concentrate on catching them doing good things, but you will soon get the hang of it.
Don't be surprised if you see your children glow and grow right before your eyes.
