Tumescent Liposuction Basics

There is plenty of misinformation about liposuction. Even if you never had the opportunity to read about the details you probably know the basic promise: it makes you thinner, leaner and more in balance with yourself.

There are quite a few people that need to reduce fat in specific areas. The more common of trouble spots include the stomach, buttocks, thighs and arms. It is not possible to lose weight in a very specific spot with diet and exercise alone.

Liposuction is a procedure to remove fat from specified areas on the body. This is done by liquefying the fat followed by a suction method.

It should be known upfront that liposuction is not a method to be used to simply lose weight. That's what diet and exercise are around for. Unwanted stored fat can be removed from certain areas to reshape your body and give you a better balanced look.

Liposuction is an outpatient surgical procedure. Therefore it is not required that you plan for any extended hospital stays upon completion of the surgery. Be aware that anesthesia will be used as in any surgery.

Tumescent liposuction is a traditional procedure where a fluid is first inserted in the fat layer. This will liquefy the fat and shrink the blood vessels for minimal bleeding and damage. Then the fat is suctioned out of the body with a straw-like device called a cannula.
The loss of fat is immediate even though some swelling will remain for a little while. This is actually the case with any surgery.

Touch-Up and revision Liposuction are exactly what they sound like. These are follow up treatments in case the results are not satisfactory from the first time.

Make sure to watch your diet and exercise after the surgery. Otherwise you will start gaining weight again and new fat cells will grow.

What recovery time would you expect? For a total recovery a patient may be looking at several weeks. This would include 1-2 days of bed rest, a return to work within 3-5 days, basic exercises within the first week and regular activities can resume within two weeks. These figures should be considered an average they could vary from one individual to another. For a realistic idea a direct consultation with your surgeon will be required so that you can effectively plan your calendar.

Now the price tag! of a liposuction procedure. The prices depend on a few basic points: who your doctor is and how many areas you wish to have treated. Generally a liposuction surgery will range from $3,000 to $10,000.

Some doctors can offer financial assistance in the form of payment plans and this option should be discussed at the consultation. This opens doors for people that may otherwise not be able to afford it.

According to many people liposuction is a convenient way to retain a physique that remains enviable.
