Mistakes in Credit Collection

While mistakes usually happen in credit collection records, there are a few that usually stand out among the crowd, making them exceptional and quite frankly difficult to solve, especially since there's not a lot of resources available to answer them.
In this particular case, we'll be taking a look at what you can do in case you receive a collection letter under a very different circumstance.
Here's an example situation: Say you received a letter of collection which implies that you owe them a certain amount but then you realize that you were still underage at the time for when you owed them the money (i.
e.
you received a letter of collection for May of 2005, in which case you were still underage at the time).
The point to all of this is that the credit reporting agencies can also make mistakes in their report.
The only sad part is that you on the other hand will have to end up sorting the mess that will result to all of the mistakes that were made.
The first step in the process would be to call the CRA's and tell them that the debt does not belong to you and that it needs to be taken down.
If the item doesn't come off, write the collection agency and request proof the debt is indeed yours.
Send all correspondence by certified mail.
Never speak with them by phone.
Remember, you must be able to state your case clearly and point out the reasons why the information is wrong and why you do not owe the agency anything.
This is where things can get a bit complicated but as long as you are able to state your case plainly the problem can be solved.
If for some reason however, you really find it difficult, you can also seek the help of an attorney for complete legal advice.
This will probably take some persistence on your part as most collection agencies will try as much as they can to collect on the money that they think you owe.
By disputing their claims and taking up their challenges however, things can get sorted out quite rather quickly.
Just remember to keep your composure at all times though as losing your temper and threatening law suits will only worsen the problem.
Try to work it out with the credit collection company diplomatically.
If that doesn't work, find other legal means that you will be able to deal with the problem.
Experts in this case would be your safest bet in solving the problem easily and quickly.
