Having a problem with snoring? There are many reasons for snoring, some are benign but some reasons are the result of a more serious medical issue.
Which of these reasons applies to you? Snoring is a problem that often impacts not only the person snoring but also the person who shares a bed with someone who snores.
Both parties get a horrible night's sleep.
In fact, many couples have to split up at night or make alternate arrangements in order to make it through the night.
One couple can only sleep together if the wife goes to bed first so that she will be less likely to be disturbed by the husband's snoring once he gets in bed.
That's a horrible way to spend the evenings.
Remember the days when you would sleep curled up together? Now, you're lucky if you can sleep in the same bed while one person shoves the other all night, trying to make them roll over and end the snoring.
All snoring is the cause of some type of restricted pathway in the nose, mouth or throat.
Either your tongue, the soft palate towards the back of the roof of your mouth, nasal passages or the inside of your throat are somehow being constricted.
You can reduce or eliminate snoring by addressing the reason that applies to you.
The reasons for snoring can be separated into two categories.
The first are primary reasons for snoring and most can be resolved with relative ease.
The second category are the types of snoring that is caused by some other medical condition.
Snoring in those cases is a symptom of something other health issue that needs to be resolved.
Most sufferers fall in the first category.
Reasons for Snoring:
  • Being overweight
  • Muscles in your airway have weakened with age
  • Enlarged tonsils or adenoids
  • Naturally narrow respiratory structure
  • Drinking alcohol before bed
  • Eating or drinking dairy products before bed
The second category includes the three types of sleep apnea.
Those with sleep apnea may stop breathing for short periods of time throughout the night in between bouts of snoring.
The medical risks of sleep apnea can be serious.
A doctor can help diagnose the existence of sleep apnea through various tests and studies.
Regardless of the cause, most reasons for snoring can be fixed.
If you want that snore to stop, find the reason and apply a solution specific to your situation.
