Difference between Male Cats & Female Cats

    Physical Traits

    • To determine the gender of a cat, look at the area around the animal's anus. In a female, the anus and urinary orifice are close together, while in a male they are farther apart. Furthermore, the male's scrotum may be visible.

    Dispositions

    • Although both genders can be very affectionate if they choose, males tend to adapt to people more quickly, while females take longer to warm up.

    Reactions to Young

    • Female cats are naturally inclined to take care of kittens. Cat owners should beware of male cats around newly born kittens. They may attempt to use them as toys or even to eat them.

    Cats that Are Not Neutered

    • If female cats are not spayed at an early age, they will begin to make constant mating calls when in heat. Male cats who are not neutered will become very aggressive toward other cats and may begin spraying behavior to mark their territory.
