Should one be a fan of monster trucks, sooner or later one becomes a fan of mud bogging. This activity, which is enjoyed by all ages, involves watching gargantuan trucks with massive wheels slogging through thick mud. And since we are in the age of the video camera, there will also be mud bogging videos. Here are a few tips should you want to try your hand at making a video of these events.
A few things are of course required to make a good mud bogging video. A camera, a strong and sturdy one at that, is definitely needed. A good choice of camera is one that is resilient to both dirt and weather. Choosing cheap highly advertised cameras can be done, but these cameras may probably not last more than two sessions of mud filming. Take your time in choosing.
Look for a camera that is designed for sports and outdoor activities. If such a camera cannot be found, then you may use a non sports one with protective sleeves. You should also have a sling to carry your camera and keep it secure around your neck so it does not easily fall into the mud you will slog through.
Some good outdoor mud wear is next on your list. Get a pair of tough punts or dungarees and some rain boots. Wearing of thick socks, absorbent ones, will protect your feet from chafing, especially should you be wearing rubber footwear.
Knowing a few good lighting strategies will also help in making you film a good video. If you happen to be in cloudy weather, put your camera settings into night mode to compensate. Should you be in very bright sunlight, always shoot with the light behind you so as to minimize glare.
And as with any video, there is the temptation of making too many comments such as expressions and the like. To make good mud bogging videos the best tip for this is just do not do it! People sometimes say things not related to the video they make or are just plain annoying. In this case always leave your film pure and do not talk at all, unless you are really good at it.
