Q. My daughter is 5 months old and teethimg. I have noticed however, a very tiny white to whitish yellow dot on her gingiva where the molars would be coming in at some future point. I believe I have noticed 2 of them over the last 3 months that come and go. Again, they are very small and barely noticable. I thought they were teeth coming in, but I cannot feel them, plus they seem to come and go and are not in the front area where the first teeth emerge.
I do not think it is "thrush", as the spots are very small...

and I have no problems with thrush on my breasts (breastfeeding).

Do you know what this could be? Should I visit a doctor here? Pamela, Italy

A. They are likely a benign cyst called a gingival cyst.

They often occur on the roof of an infant's mouth, when they are called Epstein's Pearls, and on the gums, when they are called Bohn's nodules.

And they go away without any treatment.
