How to Make a Knitted Cat Plush

    Body

    • 1). Cast on with six stitches in the first color. Form the first round, knitting into the front and back of the stitch, forming 12 stitches in this way.

    • 2). Knit all the stitches in the second row. Repeat this process for every even-numbered row until the 14th.

    • 3). Form the third row by knitting into the front and back, knitting one, knitting into the front and back, knitting one and then into the front and back once more. Repeat this process a second time and then knit two.

    • 4). Begin the fifth round by knitting into the front and back of the stitch and then knitting two. Form 24 stitches in this way.

    • 5). Knit into the front and back of the stitch, knit three and repeat. Then knit into the front and back, knit four and repeat. Knit into the front and back and knit, forming a total of 30 stitches.

    • 6). Form the ninth round in the same way as the seventh, but increase to knitting four where previously you knitted three, and increase to six where you previously knitted four, creating a total of 36 stitches.

    • 7). Form the eleventh, thirteenth and fifteenth rounds in the same way. Increase the number of stitches to five and eight, six and 10, and seven and 12 respectively.

    • 8). Use the second contrasting color for the sixteenth round and knit all the stitches. Form the rows 18 and 20 in the same way.

    • 9). Knit rounds 19 and 21 in the same fashion as the previous odd-numbered rounds. Increase to knitting eight and 14 for the row 19, and nine and 16 for row 21.

    • 10

Create the following six rows by knitting all the stitches using the first contrasting color. Change to the second contrasting color for round 28. Slip slip knit, knit nine and repeat. Slip slip knit two more stitches and knit 16. Knit two together, knit 10 and repeat. Finish with knitting two together and then knitting two.

    • 11

Form the next round by knitting all the stitches. Do the same for rows 31 and 33.

    • 12

Slip slip knit, knit nine and repeat to start round 30. Slip slip knit and knit 16. Twice, knit two together and then knit nine. End by knitting two together and knit two. Form row 32 in the same way, reducing from knitting nine to eight and from 16 to 14. Change to the first contrasting color for row 34, and use the same instructions, reducing to knitting seven and 12.

    • 13

Knit all the stitches on round 35. Change to the main color for the next row and use the instructions above, knitting this time six and 10, forming a total of 42 stitches.

    • 14

Knit all the stitches in rounds 37 to 52, as well as in rows 54 and 56. For rounds 53 and 55, use the above instructions, reducing to knitting five and eight, and six and four, respectively.

    • 15

Fill the body with stuffing until you have shaped it to how you desire. Continue knitting, use the same method as before, reducing to knit three and four for round 57, and two and two for round 59. Knit all the stitches for rows 58 and 60.

    • 16

Sew or glue on the eyes, and embroider the nose and mouth with the first contrasting color. Fill the head with stuffing, just short of the very top.

    • 17

Use the above instructions to form round 61, reducing to knitting one and one. Knit all the stitches of round 62. For row 63, use the same instructions, omitting the additional knitted stitches, resulting in a total of six stitches.

    • 18

Cut the yarn and pull it through the remaining stitches. Add the rest of the stuffing to the head and close the opening by pulling the yarn firmly. Tie and knot in the yarn and push inside the plush.

    Ears

    • 1). Cast on with 16 stitches, using the main color, and leave a tail of 18 inches for attaching the ear to the head. For the odd-numbered rounds, one to nine, knit all the stitches.

    • 2). Knit three, slip slip knit and knit six to begin the second round. Then knit two together and knit three. Repeat this process for rounds four, six and eight, reducing from knitting to six to four, two and zero respectively.

    • 3). Finish round nine and cut the yarn, pulling it through the remaining stitches. Tightly pull the yarn to close the gap. Turn the ear inside out by inserting the needle into the opening and making a knot inside. Cut the yarn to finish. Repeat for the second ear.

    Front Legs

    • 1). Cast on with 14 stitches, using the first contrasting color, and leave 18 inches of yarn tail to sew to the body. Knit all the stitches for rounds one to six.

    • 2). Change to the second contrasting color and knit all the stitches in rows seven to 12, and the same with the first contrasting color in rounds 13 and 14. Use the main color to knit all the stitches in rounds 15 and 16.

    • 3). Start round 17 by making one stitch and knitting seven. Repeat this a second time, forming a total of 16 stitches. Knit all the stitches in rounds 18 to 21.

    • 4). Knit two together eight times for round 22 and cut the yarn. Finish in the same way as you did for the ears. Repeat to create the second front leg.

    Back Legs

    • 1). Cast on with 16 stitches, using the first contrasting color, and leave an 18-inch tail of yarn. Knit all the stitches for the first 16 rows. Change to the main color to knit all the stitches in rounds 17 and 18.

    • 2). Make one stitch and then knit eight. Repeat this a second time.

    • 3). Knit all the stitches in rounds 20 to 23. End by knitting two together eight times and cutting the yarn, as you did for the ears and arms. Repeat to make the second leg.
