- 1). Provide detailed information about yourself. Most law enforcement agencies will ask you to fill out a specific form before they will run your background check. It will ask you for your current name and any names or aliases you have used in the past. You will also need to provide your date of birth, address, Social Security number, race and gender.
- 2). Get full sets of fingerprints taken. The agency where you are requesting your background check will need to take your fingerprints and palm prints. You may need to schedule a special appointment to have the prints taken.
- 3). Let the agency know why you are requesting a background check. On your request, you may be asked the reason for requesting a background check. This will help the agency make sure that they report the issue will meet your needs.
- 4). Inform the agency if you need a certified copy. If you have been asked for a certified or "official" copy of your background check, let the agency know this at the time you make your request. Some agencies may charge an extra processing fee for certified copies.
