Why is Solar Power So Misunderstood?

Even though solar energy has been around for several decades, it is still largely understood by a major segment of the population.
There is probably a good reason for this in that none of us in north America have really needed to use solar power, except in odd circumstances.
We all think that our electricity comes from a hole in the wall, and in fact that is the case.
You plug in your TV, push the remote and away you go.
Ask your kids where electricity comes from - and that is most likely what they will say.
We haven't done a very good job of educating them, have we? One thing we are going to have to give the kids of today credit for is that they are better informed than many of us adults when it comes to things which are "green".
There is hardly a school anywhere which does not have some sort of program teaching the kids about our environment today.
I hate to admit how many years it has been since I have seen the inside of a school as a student, but there was never any talk of "green" when I was a youngster.
In fact, the very expressions "solar power" was nowhere to be heard.
Part of the problem is that until recently, we have not needed an alternative energy source.
It has only been in the past twenty years or so that the global warming problem - caused in part by our over consumption of fossil fuels - has begun to convince us that another route needs to be taken.
We cannot simply go on the way things are, consuming ever increasing amounts of carbon producing energy.
The kids of today will be the ones who demand - and get - the necessary changes.
Yes, the responsive business owner of today is changing his habits.
Yes, our vehicle manufacturers are making steady improvements.
Even to the point of having electric powered vehicles built, which in turn can be plugged into solar powered charging stations.
But what does the average adult really understand about solar power? Mostly, we know that you can put a bunch of solar panels on your roof and save a little on your electricity bill.
We also think that the cost of doing such a thing is prohibitively expensive.
Indeed, that is what we think, but are we really correct? Do we understand why this is so? And in fact, is this really the case? So many misconceptions abound regarding solar power, the vast majority of which have no basis in fact.
Education will be the key to unlocking the successful transition to the everyday use of solar energy.
As we become more used to the actual use of solar energy on an individual basis, so we will be able to convince others of the extended benefits.
Just think for a minute...
is there anything at all that you use regularly which is solar powered? It's not a trick question...
just think how many things that you might have which are solar powered.
Unfortunately, your house is probably not one of them.
But it should be, and it could be far sooner than you think.
You need to set aside the misconceptions about solar power and accept the fact that soon, very soon, all of us will need this valuable power source every day.
