What Is a Good Office Chair?

A lot of people work in an office and I am sure that most of them can back me up when I say that sitting in an office chair for a long period of time can cause of worsen back and neck problems. When you are sitting in a chair you will take a static posture, which will put stress on your neck, shoulders, arms, legs and back. It will especially put pressure upon muscles and spinal discs.

Besides taking a static posture, most people often slouch in their office chair or any other kantoormeubelen. By doing that you will take on the wrong posture for too long, which could lead to overstretching the spinal ligaments or staining your back discs.
So overall it is very important to take the right sitting posture when you have to sit still for a long period of time. In this article we will give you some pointers about your office chair setup. A good setup can prevent you to slouch and could save you from back and neck problems.

You will notice that most office chairs are ergonomically, which means that you can adapt them to your posture. They can make sure that you maintain a good posture and maximize your back support.
However, when you own an ergonomic chair it does not mean you will be released from all your back problems. It is necessary that you adapt the chair in such a way that it improves the sitting comfort while reducing the aggravation to the lower back and neck. The adaptation of your office chair goes by four steps.

1. Height measure
First of all you will have to determine your desired height to sit in front of you desk. Your chair height will be depended on the type of work you are doing and your own height. Sometimes the type of work you are doing needs its own type of ergonomic chair.
When you are seated behind your desk you can adjust the height of the chair depending on what you find most comfortable. Keep in mind that you must be capable of touching the ground with two flat feet. Once you have found that most comfortable height you will less amount of stress to the spine.

2. Elbow measure
The second thing you need to adjust is the posture of your elbows. Besides sitting comfortably you need to make sure that your upper arms are parallel with your spine. Your hands need to rest on your laptop, desk or any other work surface at all times. When your elbow are resting in a 90 degrees angle you should adjust your office chair or bureaustoel.

3. Thigh measure
When your office chair has a footrest you should always check your thigh measurements. When you can easily slide your fingers under your thigh at the leading edge of the office chair, you are good to go. When slip more than one finger under your thigh you are legs are too high and you should adjust the footrest. When your are very tall it is best if you raise your work desk in order to raise you chair.

4. Calf measure
Last but not least, you have to measure your calf. You do this by placing your bottom against the chair back and place o first the back of your calf and the front of your office chair. If you cannot do this, you office chair is to deep and you need to adjust it backwards to insert more lower back support.

Try to remember these tips and tricks and apply them tomorrow at the office, you back, neck and shoulder will be very grateful.
