Travelers who want to cruise the eastern Mediterranean and visit Egypt have a wide range of choices. Over 60 cruise ships ply those waters in the summer season. Many of the ships are from European-based cruise lines, but the major U.S. lines also offer a choice of cruises. Eastern Mediterranean cruises typically depart from London, Barcelona or Rome. - Celebrity provides extensive eastern Mediterranean cruises aboard the Celebrity Equinox sailing out of Rome. The 10-day cruise itinerary focuses on Athens and a handful of Greek islands plus a stop in Naples, Italy. The 13-day cruise schedule includes stops at Athens and Rhodes, Greece; Kusadasi, Turkey; Ashdod and Haifa, Israel, and Alexandria, Egypt. The Equinox sails on the 10-day schedule during the summer; the longer 13-day trips are in the fall and winter. Celebrity launched the Equinox in 2009. The ship can accommodate up to 2,850 guests and features a lawn club with real grass, extensive wine cellar with wine education classes and four specialty restaurants to complement the main dining room.

The cruise ship Vision of the Seas will carry 2,435 guests on 12-day cruises out of Venice. The 3,114-passenger Navigator of the Seas sails from Rome on 7- and 12-day cruises into the eastern Mediterranean.
