The 13-day cruise schedule includes stops at Athens and Rhodes, Greece; Kusadasi, Turkey; Ashdod and Haifa, Israel, and Alexandria, Egypt. The Equinox sails on the 10-day schedule during the summer; the longer 13-day trips are in the fall and winter. Celebrity launched the Equinox in 2009. The ship can accommodate up to 2,850 guests and features a lawn club with real grass, extensive wine cellar with wine education classes and four specialty restaurants to complement the main dining room.

    Holland America Cruises

    • Holland America has five ships cruising summer and fall to the eastern Mediterranean and Egypt. Brand new in 2010, 2,106-passenger Nieuw Amsterdam cruises primarily out of Venice on 12-, 19- and 24-day on cruises into the eastern Mediterranean. The 1,918-passenger cruise ship Noordam sails from Rome on 10- and 20-day itineraries. The Prinsendam offers 14- and 28-day cruises for 835 passengers. The Prinsendam rotates its departure ports through Rome, Athens and London. The Rotterdam carries 1,404 passengers on 12-day eastern Mediterranean cruises that start and end in Athens and Rome, sailing between the two cities. The 1,916-passenger Westerdam cruises from Athens on 12-, 24- and 36-day voyages around the eastern Mediterranean and Egypt. Holland America is a good choice for someone looking for a longer cruise that will visit numerous ports and cities in the region.

    Royal Caribbean International

    • Royal Caribbean has three ships plying the waters of the eastern Mediterranean, offering cruise options for the region year-round. The cruise ship Vision of the Seas will carry 2,435 guests on 12-day cruises out of Venice. Port visits include Port Said and Alexandria in Egypt, Ashdod and Haifa in Israel and either Athens, Greece, or Kusadasi, Turkey. The 3,114-passenger Navigator of the Seas sails from Rome on 7- and 12-day cruises into the eastern Mediterranean. The itinerary varies and can include stops in the Greek islands, Kusadasi, Naples, Alexandria and Crete. The Splendor of the Seas also sails out of Rome in the spring and fall on 12-day cruises. The Splendor has accommodations for 2,076 passengers. Ports of call include Naples, Athens, Rhodes, Kusadasi and Alexandria.

    Silversea Cruises

    • Silversea is a luxury, all-inclusive cruise line that gives guests the feel of traveling aboard a private yacht. The 296-passenger Silver Wind cruises the eastern Mediterranean between the ports of Athens, Venice and Istanbul. Itineraries usually start in one of these ports and finish in another. Cruise lengths range from 7 to 12 days. Different cruises focus on the Greek islands, Israel and Egypt or the Adriatic Sea between Italy and Croatia.
