Alternative birthstone systems are becoming more and more common these days and it seems there is now a list for most time frames or belief systems.
Although there are traditional lists for birthstones connected to months and of course alternate lists, there are also lists available now for zodiac signs, seasons, and even mystical birthstone lists.
Some of the lists have a long history steeped in tradition.
The modern birthstone list is dated as being created in 1912 by the American National Association of Jewelers and is used as the standard birthstone list in America.
The traditional birthstones are said to backdate to the 15th century.
The mystical birthstones are said to date back over a thousand years and is thought to be Tibetan in origin.
Some jewelry brands and stores have even put together their own lists and it is this point that deserves some consideration.
There are so many birthstone lists to choose from these days that contradictions do occur.
This does actually lead to the point that you can technically open up quite a pool of stone choices for yourself, so if the traditional or modern list stones do not fit your taste or budget, them simply take a look around for another list that is more to your liking.
After all is said and done, the stone you choose is more about what it means to you and will make you feel more comfortable and happy than having to choose a stone that you may not like that much.
